Born and raised in a remote fishing village on the coast of the South China Sea, Ya Sheng immigrated to the US when he was 5, settling in New York. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy and later went on to study political theory at Princeton University, graduating with a BA in Politics. Upon graduating from college, he moved to the UK to pursue an MPhil in Political Thought and Intellectual History at King's College, University of Cambridge. He subsequently spent the next 9 months as an admissions counselor at the TEAK Fellowship, an educational non-profit helping gifted but under-served students from New York gain admission into highly competitive secondary schools and colleges. Ya Sheng is now a JD candidate at Yale Law School.

Throughout his academic journey, Ya Sheng has accumulated years of tutoring experience working with students of all ages. He feels most satisfied when his students develop an organic love of learning and an ability to self-diagnose their weaknesses. As such, he is eager to take on students at any stage of their academic journey and development.

When he's not contemplating the origins of the modern state or the legal status of corporate entities, Ya Sheng enjoys participating in ballroom dancing competitions in the US and abroadŃincluding the USADance Nationals and the Blackpool Dance Festival. During his time at Cambridge, he not only competed against Oxford University at the annual varsity match but was also invited to represent Cambridge at an international ballroom dance competition in Beijing, China. Upon graduating, Ya Sheng was awarded a Half-Blue from the Cambridge Blues committee and inducted into the Hawks' Club.
