Emma holds a PhD in French Literature from Harvard University. Previously, she earned her BA and BM, summa cum laude, from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. Her doctoral dissertation examined the representation of music as a tool of social critique in the modern French novel.

Susan

Susan studied English at Rice and graduated summa cum laude. After serving in Teach for America, she earned her PhD in English at Harvard. She has held faculty positions at Wake Forest and Yale and currently lives in London.

Paul C.

Paul is a PhD candidate in African and African American Studies at Harvard, where he has received multiple awards for his teaching, as well as several research fellowships, including a Fulbright-Hays fellowship.

Elliot earned his BS in Biology at MIT, and his MSc by Research in Clinical Medicine on a Rhodes Scholarshop at Oxford University. Currently, he is an MD/PhD student in the the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology program.

Mariam Rahmani is a writer and translator. Rahmani holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from UCLA and an MFA in Fiction from Columbia University, as well as degrees from Princeton and Oxford. Grey received his BA in English from Reed College, and his MA in French and his PhD in History from Yale. His dissertation, published in French in 2018 and under contract in English with Verso Books, examines the military coup that returned General Charles de Gaulle to power.

Seth S.

Seth earned his BA from the University of Michigan, where his senior thesis on Brazilian welfare politics won the Sahlins Award for best thesis in the Social Sciences. After working as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant, he began his PhD in Political Science at Harvard University.

Hudson earned an AB in Physics from Princeton. Next, Hudson worked as a quantitative trader and researcher at DC Energy. Now, Hudson has returned to studying physics as an astrophysics graduate student at MIT's LIGO labs.

Matthew G.

Matthew holds an AB in Government from Harvard and a PhD in Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies at Columbia University. He's a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Michigan.

Davis is currently a graduate student in the MIT Mathematics department pursuing research at the interface between fluid dynamics and quantum mechanics. He previously graduated from Penn State University, earning a Master’s Degree in Engineering Science and Mechanics, and graduating at the top of his class for his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Science.

Lisa attended Cornell University where she graduated magna cum laude in Chemistry and Chemical Biology. After Cornell, she worked at Procter and Gamble making your favorite household laundry supplies! She is now a PhD candidate in the Chemistry and Chemical Biology program at Harvard.

Roland

Roland is an award-winning author and illustrator. His biography of Arthur Ransome won a Jerwood Award from the Royal Society of Literature and the HW Fischer Prize from the Biographer’s Club. His illustrations for Lev Grossman’s best-selling Magicians trilogy were published in the New Yorker. Roland is currently writing and illustrating a series of novels for children.

Nathan B.

Nathan is a lecturer in The Writing Seminars, the creative writing program at Johns Hopkins University. He earned his MFA at Hopkins, and also attended Emory University in Atlanta, majoring in English literature and creative writing and graduating summa cum laude.

Nick S.

Nick graduated from Columbia University with degrees in English and Economics. He next earned a teaching certificate and moved to Barcelona to teach English. Since 2003, he’s been teaching all over the world, usually spending winters in Berlin and summers in Barcelona.

Noah graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from West Point. He next studied in the Space Propulsion Laboratory at MIT, receiving a Master of Science in Aeronautics and Astronautics. His work to design and test plasma thrusters for nano-satellites forms the basis of a currently pending patent.

Xavier graduated from Yale College in 2019 with a BS in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. During the summers, he researched Type II Diabetes at Yale Medical School and HIV at Harvard Medical School. Currently, he is pursuing a Neuroscience PhD at Columbia University.

Eleanor S.

Eleanor is an MBA/Masters in Computer Science dual degree candidate at the University of Chicago/Booth School of Business. Previously, she received her Bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University.

Nick O.

Nick attended Washington University in St. Louis as an Ervin Scholar, where he double majored in Mechanical Engineering and Sustainable Development. Currently, Nick is a doctoral student in the Management Science and Engineering Department at Stanford University, where his research focuses on the consequences of disruption, abolitionist technologies, and business models that incentivize responsible urban innovation.

Ubadah

Ubadah is a neuroscientist at MIT. He immigrated to the US and started community college when he was 16 years old. After spending three years there, he transferred to the University of Missouri, where he earned his BS in Biology. Ubadah then earned his PhD in Translational Biology, Medicine, and Health at Virginia Tech.

Sam C.

Sam graduated with a degree in Physics from Princeton University. After graduation, she taught physics at a high school in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. She's currently pursuing her MFA in fiction at the Iowa Writers' Workshop.

Michael S.

Michael graduated with honors from Swarthmore College with a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science. He next acquired a PhD in Computer Science at the University of Virginia, specializing in parallel and distributed systems. He completed his post-doctoral studies at the RENCI Supercomputing Center at UNC Chapel Hill.

Ryan Ra.

Ryan is currently finishing a PhD from MIT in Philosophy. During the next academic year, he will be a Visiting Scholar in Ethics of Technology at Phillips Academy at Andover, and a Research Affiliate at MIT in the Philosophy Department.

William O.

Will is now attending Stanford’s Graduate School of Business for his PhD, studying applications of machine learning, algorithms, and network science to problems in business. He previously double majored in computer science and mathematics at Caltech.

William N.

William is a PhD candidate at NYU, writing a dissertation on the philosophy of logic. He previously majored in political science and film production at the Macaulay Honors Program at Brooklyn College, he. His thesis film, “Sugar Packet”, was selected to screen at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and won two awards.

Liz has been a professor at Harvard College (English) and Bates College (Theater and Dance). She holds a PhD and MA in English from Harvard University and a BA in English and Dramatic Art from UNC (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa).

Robert S.

Robert holds a BSc in Physics from Jacobs University and a PhD in Physics from Harvard University. For his work as a Teaching Fellow at Harvard, Robert won the Harvard University Physics Department’s White Prize for excellence in teaching introductory physics

Larisa

Larisa received her BA in philosophy and psychology from Simmons College, an MA in philosophy from Tufts, a PhD in philosophy from UNC-Chapel Hill, and she was a postdoctoral scholar at OSU. Larisa was recently a Lecturer in the Brandeis University Philosophy Department. She is currently working on a book project about responsibility and forgiveness after traumatic wrongdoing.

Julia Ra.

Julia graduated summa cum laude from Northeastern University with a major in cell and molecular biology. She is currently a PhD student at MIT studying the interactions between bacteria and bacteriophages, which are the viruses that infect bacteria.

Miki

Miki received her PhD in Anthropology from Johns Hopkins University and is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at UIUC. After receiving her BA magna cum laude from Macaulay Honors College at Lehman College, CUNY, she completed a U.S. Fulbright grant in Nepal, worked at the Harvard School of Public Health and NIH, and did MA studies at Universität Heidelberg in Health and Society in South Asia.

Penelope

Penelope attended the University of Chicago, where she graduated with a major in Comparative Literature. She then completed a Master 1 at the Sorbonne Nouvelle in Comparative Literature. She is currently a PhD candidate in Romance Studies - French at Cornell University.

Emily V.

Emily is a PhD candidate at Harvard University in the Department of Human Evolutionary Biology. Currently, she is being funded by the National Science Foundation to research conditions in which the gut microbiome may behave in a way that is adaptive to the host. Prior to graduate school, Emily graduated from Harvard College cum laude with a degree in Human Evolutionary Biology and minor in Chemistry.

Ravi

Ravi graduated from Georgia Tech with a BS in Management. He then was accepted to Harvard Business School’s 2+2 program. He spent three years as a healthcare investor and obtained the CFA designation before matriculating at HBS. He’s since worked for Khan Academy, Flexport, and Chime – the most recent of which he was Lead Data Scientist & Data Engineer.

Rakeeb

Rakeeb graduated summa cum laude from Cornell University with a degree in Biological Engineering. He then pursued a research position at Johns Hopkins University, where he discovered a passion for immunology that has since led him to become a PhD candidate in the Immunology program at Harvard.

Tarika

Tarika graduated with dual degrees in Philosophy and Biochemistry from The University of Texas at Austin. She then spent a year as a research fellow at the Mayo Clinic Biomedical Ethics Research Program in Rochester, Minnesota before moving to Boston to pursue her MD at Harvard Medical School.

Brandon H.

Brandon currently teaches at Georgetown University. He holds a PhD in Cultural Anthropology from Princeton, a JD from Georgetown University, and an MA and BA in Latin American Studies from UT at Austin.

Max S.

Max has a BA in French from Washington University in St. Louis and a PhD in French Literature from New York University, where he also taught undergraduate language courses. He currently teaches French at St. Andrew's School.

Maya C.

Maya graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Religious Studies and Political Science and minors in French and Conflict Studies from DePauw University. As a Fulbright grantee, Maya taught English to over 200 students in Morocco. She's currently an MPP Candidate at the Harvard Kennedy School.

Fernando is a PhD Candidate in Biophysics at Harvard University. Previously, he completed a BS in Applied Mathematics and Biomedical Engineering from John Hopkins University, as well as conducted research in cancer immunotherapy and single-cell microfluidics, earning multiple research awards.

Max holds a PhD in Middle Eastern, South Asian, and African Studies from Columbia, an MA in Near Eastern Studies from NYU, and a BA in Philosophy from Vassar. An experienced classroom teacher, he currently teaches World History at Poly Prep Country Day School.

Michae O.

Michael holds a BA in Mathematics and American Studies at Wesleyan University, and a PhD in American Studies at Harvard University. His studies focus on 19th century US history and the history of the life sciences.

James W.

James is currently a PhD researcher at the University of Glasgow, where he is writing a dissertation on a Venetian painter from the late 16th century named Palma il Giovane. He holds an MA in Art History (NYU), an MA in Art Business (University of Manchester), and a BA in Art History (Vassar).

Akhil holds a BA and MA in Political Science from Yale University. He is currently pursuing his MS in Comparative Social Policy from the University of Oxford as a Marshall Scholar. Following his time in Oxford, he will begin studying for his JD at Yale Law School.

Virginia graduated from Georgetown University with degrees in accounting and finance, obtained her CPA, and went on to work in public accounting and financial consulting in New York City. She is currently pursuing a Master’s in Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School.

Connor is a PhD Candidate in Religion at Columbia University; his dissertation focuses on the relationship between religion, science, and technology in contemporary America. He also holds an MPhil and MA in Religion from Columbia, an a BA in Religion from Vassar College.

Amnon is a PhD in Computational Robotics and Reinforcement Learning at The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has been recognized as an Outstanding Teaching Assistant by his university for teaching Artificial Intelligence and Machine Perception.

Max R.

Max holds a PhD in Computer Science from UC Berkeley, prior to which he received his AB in Mathematics from Princeton University. He has done research across multiple areas of machine learning and statistics, notably natural language processing, fine tuning for neural networks, probabilistic modeling, and statistical theory.
