Peter K.

Peter is a PhD student in German at Columbia University. Prior to grad school, he earned a BMus in Musical Arts with distinction from Eastman, and, simultaneously, a BA in German Studies from University of Rochester.

Emma Zc.

Emma holds a PhD in French Literature from Harvard University. Previously, she earned her BA and BM, summa cum laude, from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. Her doctoral dissertation examined the representation of music as a tool of social critique in the modern French novel.

Ezra

After Ezra graduated from Harvard with a BA in Social Studies, he received the Trustman Traveling Fellowship and went to Peru to study the Chinese diaspora. He is now the Artist-in-Residence at the Signet Society at Harvard.

Joyce

Joyce is currently an MD candidate at Harvard Medical School. She also graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa with a BA in Anthropology from Harvard, where her thesis won the Thomas T. Hoopes Prize.

Susan

Susan studied English at Rice and graduated summa cum laude. After serving in Teach for America, she earned her PhD in English at Harvard. She has held faculty positions at Wake Forest and Yale and currently lives in London.

Paul C.

Paul is a PhD candidate in African and African American Studies at Harvard, where he has received multiple awards for his teaching, as well as several research fellowships, including a Fulbright-Hays fellowship.

Julia P.

Julia holds a BA from Princeton University in English Literature, with certificates in Theater and Music Theater. Her thesis won the Alan Downer prize for research in English and drama. Currently, she works in theatrical costuming.

Anna S.

Anna holds a PhD in Slavic Languages and Literature (Harvard), an MA in Slavic Languages and Literature (MA), a BA in History and Philology (Russian State University) and a BA in Fine Arts (Pushkin State Museum Art College).

Erin B.

Erin holds an MFA from the Iowa Writers' Workshop. She also holds an MA in Modern & Contemporary Literature (University of Virginia) and BA in English (Rutgers University, summa cum laude with high honors).

Charlotte

Charlotte holds an MA in Hispanic Studies from Brown University and a BA in English and Spanish from Oxford University. She is a recipient of the Kossoff Prize for Leadership in Language Teaching.

Evan J.

Evan is a novelist, essayist, and educator. He holds an MFA in Fiction (Iowa Writers' Workshop) and BA in Interdisciplinary Studies (Evergreen State College). Currently, he teaches at Pierrepont School in Westport, Connecticut.

Daniel Be.

Daniel is a contributing writer for the New York Times Magazine and author of 5 books of literary nonfiction. He holds an MFA in Fiction (Columbia University), and has taught at Saint Ann's School, Columbia University, and elsewhere.

Mariam R.

Mariam Rahmani is a writer and translator. Rahmani holds a PhD in Comparative Literature from UCLA and an MFA in Fiction from Columbia University, as well as degrees from Princeton and Oxford. She currently serves on the faculty of Bennington College and is a postdoctoral Fellow with the American Council for Learned Societies in 2023-24.

Jordan P.

Jordan is a PhD student in English and American Literature at Boston University, whe she also earned her BA in English. Prior to graduate school, she worked as a faculty assistant at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Shara F.

Shara is an MA student in Jewish Gender and Women's Studies at the Jewish Theological Seminary. She holds a BA in Theatre from Northwestern with minors in Creative Writing and Gender and Sexuality Studies (summa cum laude).

Anna F.

Anna graduated from Harvard University with a BA in English and a minor in Linguistics and Language Theory. While at Harvard, she was a curriculum editor for the Mamelodi Initiative in South Africa.

Adrienne

Adrienne received her English PhD from Harvard University, her MFA from the Iowa Writers' Workshop, and her BA from Princeton University. She is a nonfiction writer and poet, and teaches in the Writing Program at Princeton University.

Gus

Gus is currently in his fifth year of pursuing his PhD in Clinical Psychology at Columbia University. He is currently conducting psychological research using experimental and survey methods and serves as the doctoral student leader of the Internet, Disclosure & Psychotherapy Lab.

Tim L.

Tim holds an MA, MPhil, and PhD in English and Comparative Literature from Columbia University. He earned his Bachelor's in English and Classical Languages from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Bill K.

Bill is the bestselling author of seven books. His undergrad degree is from the University of Chicago and his doctorate from Johns Hopkins. History and biography are his fields, but he's helped improve both student and adult writing for twenty years across a wide range of subjects.

Charlie T.

Charlie earned a BA in Political and Social Thought and English from UVA. Next, he earned his master's degrees in English and in History of Science, Medicine, and Technology at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. He is now a PhD candidate in English Literature at Harvard.

Juliet R.

Juliet studied Playwriting and Biology at Northwestern University with a focus on Biochemistry and Biophysics. She worked for several years as a research scientist after graduation, eventually pursuing an MS in Biomedical Engineering at Northwestern

Wyatt S.

Wyatt holds an AB from Kenyon College and an MA from NYU, both in English. He's currently a PhD student in Harvard's English department.

Bex

Bex majored in theatre and minored in creative writing at Northwestern University, graduating summa cum laude. After settling in Chicago, Bex won a prestigious Luminarts Cultural Foundation fellowship in creative writing. They are now an MFA candidate at Hamline University, where they study writing for children and young adults.

Roland

Roland is an award-winning author and illustrator. His biography of Arthur Ransome won a Jerwood Award from the Royal Society of Literature and the HW Fischer Prize from the Biographer’s Club. His illustrations for Lev Grossman’s best-selling Magicians trilogy were published in the New Yorker. Roland is currently writing and illustrating a series of novels for children.

Nathan B.

Nathan is a lecturer in The Writing Seminars, the creative writing program at Johns Hopkins University. He earned his MFA at Hopkins, and also attended Emory University in Atlanta, majoring in English literature and creative writing and graduating summa cum laude.

Matthew S.

Matthew attended Emory University, where he majored in English and Creative Writing and won several student film awards. He currently works in the film industry.

Sean B.

Sean graduated from Yale University with a degree in American Studies. After teaching in Oklahoma City at Odyssey Leadership Academy, he went on to earn his MFA in Poetry at Boston University.

Sam C.

Sam graduated with a degree in Physics from Princeton University. After graduation, she taught physics at a high school in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. She's currently pursuing her MFA in fiction at the Iowa Writers' Workshop.

Jenny M.

Jenny currently teaches English literature at St. Johnsbury Academy. She holds degrees from Dartmouth College, Trinity College at the University of Oxford, and the University of St. Andrews in Scotland.

Liz P.

Liz has been a professor at Harvard College (English) and Bates College (Theater and Dance). She holds a PhD and MA in English from Harvard University and a BA in English and Dramatic Art from UNC (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa).

Emilija

Emilija has a BA in Sociology from Queen’s University, and three Montessori MACTE teaching certifications from the Toronto Montessori Institute for children ages 2.5 through 12. Emilija completed an MA in International Studies in Education at the University of Birmingham, and an M.Ed in Educational Leadership, Organization and Entrepreneurship at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She also has her Primary Years International Baccalaureate teaching license from the IBO.

Brandon H.

Brandon currently teaches at Georgetown University. He holds a PhD in Cultural Anthropology from Princeton, a JD from Georgetown University, and an MA and BA in Latin American Studies from UT at Austin.

Austin T.

Austin attended Harvard College, and graduated summa cum laude with a double major in Chemistry and English. Austin deferred her admission to Harvard Law School to write and her debut novel, NOTES ON INFINITY, is forthcoming summer 2025.

Layla

Layla is an MD Candidate at Harvard Medical School. Previously, she graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a BA in Writing Seminars and a minor in Islamic Studies. Her post-grad fellowship conducting ovarian cancer research at the National Center for Advancing Translational Science culminated in her choice to pursue a career in medicine.

Michae O.

Michael holds a BA in Mathematics and American Studies at Wesleyan University, and a PhD in American Studies at Harvard University. His studies focus on 19th century US history and the history of the life sciences.

Anna Tw.

Anna holds an MFA in Acting from the Shakespeare Theatre Company/George Washington University and an MA in Acting from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Previously, she earned her BA in Creative Writing from Stanford University.

Connor M.

Connor is a PhD Candidate in Religion at Columbia University; his dissertation focuses on the relationship between religion, science, and technology in contemporary America. He also holds an MPhil and MA in Religion from Columbia, an a BA in Religion from Vassar College.

Linda L.

Linda has 36 years of classroom experience. She taught English at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School; started a small school, the Social Justice Academy, in Boston; taught Composition and Research to college students in Missouri (Stephens) and Massachusetts (Bentley); and helped lead the John D. O’Bryant School of Mathematics and Science to its number 5 state-wide ranking.

Chris B.

Chris received his AB from Princeton, where he studied History and American Studies. After earning his Ed.M. at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, he’s been teaching in Boston for the past decade.

Kendall G.

Kendall is a doctoral candidate in Politics at the University of Oxford with a specialization in political theory. Before moving to the United Kingdom as a Marshall Scholar, Kendall attended Tulane University, where she graduated summa cum laude in two degrees – a BA in Political Science and a BSM in Legal Studies in Business.

Hannah L.

Hannah earned her BA from Yale University, where her undergrad poetry thesis won her Yale’s Frederick Mortimer Clapp Fellowship. Hannah got her MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop in 2015 and is currently an English PhD candidate at the University of Virginia.

Emmett K.

Emmett attended Amherst College, where he majored in English. After college, Emmett spent five years working as a journalist and television producer. Next, he received an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Montana.

Amy T.

Amy attended Stanford University, where she majored in Urban Sustainability and minored in Italian, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. Amy went on to receive her MFA in Creative Writing from Hollins University, where she was a Dillard Fellow and received the Andrew James Purdy Prize in Short Fiction.

Elizabeth Be.

Elizabeth received her PhD in English from New York University, where she specialized in eighteenth-century British literature and Romanticism. Before NYU, she received an MA in Literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and a BA in English from the University of Central Florida.

Olivia M.

Olivia is a 2016 graduate of Harvard University (cum laude) in English and Mind/Brain/Behavior. She also holds a Master of Studies in English (1900-present) from St. Catherine's College, University of Oxford (2017). Olivia works as both a professional tutor and theatre director in the UK.

Jack Mc.

Jack earned his BA in Theatre and Performance Studies (cum laude) at Yale University, where he also pursued extensive coursework in humanities departments like English and History. After Yale, Jack earned his MA in Theatre at The Ohio State University with a focus on dramatic literature, history, and theory.

Rob F.

Rob holds an MFA in Fiction from New York University. Previously, he worked for Bain & Company and graduated from Stanford with a major in Political Science. He currently writes poetry, fiction, and art criticism.

Maggie G.

Maggie is an Associate Professor of English at Skidmore College. She holds a PhD in English from Emory University and a BA in English from Agnes Scott College (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa). Her first book, Lyric Poetry and Space Exploration from Einstein to the Present, was released by Oxford University Press in 2023.

Julia H.

Julia double majored in Global Studies and Spanish Linguistics at the University of California, Berkeley. Her thesis on microfinance loans earned her Honors in Global Studies, and she graduated magna cum laude and as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society.

Morgan

Morgan holds a JD from Vanderbilt University Law School and a BA in American Studies from Wesleyan University. She is a former lawyer admitted to practice in the State of New York (having worked in both government and BigLaw), and most recently was the Script Coordinator on a Netflix TV show.

Brian P.

Brian holds a PhD in English Literature at Rutgers University, where his research was supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Modern Language Association, and the Folger Shakespeare Library. His prize-winning personal essays have appeared in Avidly, Literary Hub, TriQuarterly, and Electric Literature.

Jesse

Jesse holds a BA in History from Columbia, where he was a Navab Fellow, Solomon & Seymour Fisher Civil Liberties Fellow, and Benjamin F. and Bernice Block Scholar. He is currently pursuing an MFA in Theatre Acting at Columbia.

Albert A.

Albert holds an MPhil in Economics from Oxford, an MFA in Fiction from NYU, and a PhD, focused on the theory of comedy, from the University of New South Wales. He is a published novelist and a playwright.

Eugenia

Eugenia is a PhD Candidate at the University of Pennsylvania, where she is completing a dissertation on contemporary capitalism and dystopian fiction.

Clara B.

Clara holds a BA in English from Harvard and an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from Columbia. She is now an MD candidate at Harvard Medical School.

We require a first-time minimum commitment of three 90 minute sessions due to the significant amount of preparation that tutors do in advance of the first few sessions.
